We are a group of Timmins Citizens who believe that lower taxes will benefit the whole community. We are concerned about the economic future of Timmins. We believe that transparency of current financial budget issues is now required to initiate positive change. We believe that City Council and Staff need to be held accountable for the manner in which taxpayers dollars are spent. We believe that we can affect positive change.Purpose: To advocate on behalf of the citizens of Timmins for responsible fiscal management of Taxpayer's dollars.Goals:•To become the voice of the taxpayers of Timmins•To engage the public in productive discussions to initiate economic growth•To raise awareness about municipal finances in general•To involve the community in the municipal budget process•To develop an action plan that can identify other sources of funding•To work in the best interests of Timmins Citizens•To influence change
Logan McMeekin, PresidentLogan grew up in Iroquois Falls and after completing her studies at Western University, she lived in Calgary for 3 years before relocating to spend three years living & working as an audiologist in New Zealand with her husband.. She holds a Doctorate Degree in Audiology and currently works part time as an Audiologist for Phonak. A mother of three young children, her interest in municipal politics centers around creating a vibrant and sustainable future for her family. In Spring of 2014, she made a deputation to City Council voicing concerns about the tax rate in Timmins. She then followed up by creating the Timmins Taxpayers Association (TTA) that summer. In 2014, she ran for a Council position in the municipal elections in Ward 5 and narrowly missed out. Her main focus right now is growing the TTA and working with Council and Administration to engage the residents of Timmins and to help create an accountable and transparent government.Erin McMeekin - SecretaryErin McMeekin has been teaching with District School Board Ontario North East since September 2005. She grew up in Iroquois Falls and went to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, earning a degree in Natural Science and a Bachelor of Education. She has been living in Connaught, on Barber's Bay for 2.5 years. She enjoys spending time outdoors and with her family. Erin also serves as Secretary for the Barber's Bay Association.Jack Dugas, DirectorBorn in 1953 and raised and educated in Timmins, Jack has been married for 39 years and is the father to two wonderful women. He worked at Kidd Creek as a certified Millwright and planner from 1973 to 1993. He has been involved in numerous volunteer organizations including: Media director for the new incoming Timmins Golden Bears junior hockey club, Media director for Starlight Foundation, which he was privileged to fund-raise and grant 4 major wishes to very sick or palliative children and their families, Media director for the 2005 Canadian Little League championship, and the Mountjoy Volunteer Fire Fighter from 1980 to1993.
